Ignite Power Takes Over ENGIE Energy Access to Build the Continent’s Largest Distributed Energy Provider
Ignite Power has completed the acquisition of ENGIE Energy Access, creating the new combined entity called Ignite Energy Access and marking one of the most significant milestones in Africa’s clean energy sector this year. With this transaction finalized and all regulatory approvals secured, the company now holds the largest distributed renewable energy footprint on the continent, serving more than fifteen million people across twelve countries.
The acquisition brings together two of the strongest players in the energy access space. ENGIE Energy Access adds its experience in solar home systems, mini grids and productive use technologies while Ignite Power brings its scale, financing models and speed of deployment. The result is a unified platform capable of reaching remote communities faster and delivering clean reliable power where traditional grid expansion cannot keep up. This deal required coordination across multiple jurisdictions and involved regulatory financial tax and operational processes, making it one of the most complex transactions completed in Africa this year. The outcome is a stronger single entity with wider reach, deeper capacity and a clear mandate to accelerate energy inclusion.
Yariv Cohen, Chief Executive Officer of Ignite Energy Access, described the completed acquisition as a major step in the company’s long term mission. He noted that combining the strengths of both teams moves the company closer to its commitment to connect one hundred million people to affordable clean and reliable energy by twenty thirty. His message reflects the scale of the moment as the expanded company begins operating with new capabilities and a broader presence across the continent.
Africa still has more than six hundred million people without access to electricity. Distributed renewable energy remains the fastest and most practical path to closing this gap. With the new structure in place, Ignite Energy Access is positioned to deepen last mile electrification, expand financing options that make energy more affordable, reduce dependence on diesel and kerosene and support economic activity in households schools clinics farms and businesses that rely on stable power.
The completion of this acquisition signals a turning point for the sector. It strengthens operational capacity, consolidates market presence and sets the stage for faster more efficient deployment of clean energy solutions across all operating markets. Ignite Energy Access enters this new chapter with a larger footprint, a unified mission and a clear focus on delivering reliable sustainable and affordable power to millions more across Africa.
