SPIE Empowers Local Communities with Top Tier Technical Training in the Oil, Gas and Energy Industry

In a bid to support community initiatives and develop local workforce in Nigeria, SPIE GLOBAL SERVICES ENERGY LIMITED has put into place a Specialized Process and Maintenance Training Program. This program was launched in 2024, under the leadership of its Managing Director, Guillaume NIARFEIX, at the company’s state-of-the-art training facility in Port Harcourt. This initiative is aimed at making sure local people have the potential to gain employment in the oil and gas sector by teaching them skills that are recognized all over the world.

The training follows the OPITO International Technical Standards and provides trainees with an overview of the oil and energy industry that combines theoretical and practical aspects. Acknowledging the significance of gender balance and inclusivity, SPIE has designed the program to guarantee equal opportunities—each group comprises 10 participants, with an equal number of male and female trainees.

Investing In Local Talent for a Sustainable Future

The 12-week intensive training program currently targets two local communities, Andoni and Rebisi, both in Port Harcourt, with 40 participants across four batches. This shows the commitment at SPIE toward empowering Nigerians, particularly those who, for various reasons, may not have access to proper industry-standard technical training.

“SPIE has and will always set aside resources in its budgets to train local people. “By offering world-class training at no cost, we are equipping individuals with the skills they need to thrive in the oil and gas industry,” said Guillaume NIARFEIX, Managing Director of SPIE Nigeria.

Since its commencement in September 2024, the training has had some promising results so far. Every graduate receives a certificate, which validates their competence, greatly increasing their employment prospects across many industries.
