Meta, 3MTT, NCAIR & RAIN Partner to Accelerate AI Skills and Innovation in Nigeria
Meta, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE), the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN) have joined forces to launch AI Academy Nigeria, a major new initiative designed to strengthen artificial intelligence skills, support Nigerian AI startups and accelerate innovation across the country.
Announced on August 17, 2026, the initiative represents a significant step in Nigeria’s increasingly ambitious effort to develop a strong domestic AI talent pipeline and turn growing interest in artificial intelligence into practical skills, products and businesses.
Rather than focusing only on teaching Nigerians how to use existing AI tools, AI Academy Nigeria is structured to help developers, entrepreneurs, students and early-career professionals move from understanding AI concepts to actually building functional AI-powered solutions.
The programme combines free AI skills development, an intensive developer bootcamp and a startup pitchathon, creating a pathway that connects AI education, technical development, entrepreneurship, funding and international exposure.
AI Academy Nigeria: What the Partnership Is Really About
The partnership brings together one of the world’s largest technology companies with Nigeria’s federal digital-economy machinery and a local artificial intelligence organisation.
Meta is providing access to its AI ecosystem and expertise, including learning opportunities centred on its Llama family of AI models. The Three Major Pillars of AI Academy Nigeria
AI Academy Nigeria is built around three complementary components: AI Skills Development, the AI Startup Pitchathon and the Developer Bootcamp. The three components are designed to address different stages of the AI innovation journey.
At the entry level, participants can develop foundational AI knowledge, while for more experienced developers and startups, the programme provides deeper technical development. Also, for promising early-stage businesses, the pitchathon creates an opportunity to showcase products, access funding and gain international exposure.

The Top 100 Learners Can Go Further While Two Nigerian AI Startups Can Win $5,000 Each
AI Academy Nigeria does not stop at free online courses. The partners said the top 100 performers in the skills development component will be eligible for scholarships towards paid Meta Blueprint certifications. Those top performers can also be eligible for up to $5,000 in Meta advertising credits.
This creates a potentially powerful incentive for participants. Instead of ending the journey when someone completes an online course, the programme introduces opportunities for certification and business growth.
For aspiring entrepreneurs and early-stage businesses, advertising credits can also provide a useful opportunity to test customer acquisition and market-development strategies without immediately carrying the full financial burden themselves.
The two winning startups were announced to receive US$5,000 each in cash funding. That means the two winners together represent $10,000 in direct cash funding and $4,000 in Meta advertising credits, excluding the additional value of international exposure and the planned trip to Türkiye.
The funding is described as equity-free, meaning the announced cash award does not require the winners to surrender an ownership stake in their companies.
RAIN’s Six-Week AI Developer Bootcamp
The third major component is the Developer Bootcamp, which will be delivered by RAIN. Unlike the broader skills-development component, the bootcamp is designed for a selected cohort of developers and startups and will run for six weeks.
Its emphasis is practical, which means participants will receive hands-on training in AI development and work towards building functional AI products and market-ready solutions. They will also receive technical guidance and access to Meta’s network of AI experts.
This could prove to be one of the most consequential elements of the programme because Nigeria’s AI challenge is not simply a shortage of people who have heard about artificial intelligence.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, presented the partnership as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem.

Meta’s Sade Dada, Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa, offered a similarly optimistic assessment of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.
